The INSARAG Search and Rescue in Floods Response Working Group (SAR-FR WG) was established to strengthen global flood emergency response efforts. Although flood response is a relatively new area for INSARAG, the working group is actively developing standards and best practices for Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) teams equipped to handle flood situations. Their work includes mapping the capabilities and resources of flood rescue teams from various countries, ensuring that these teams are prepared to respond efficiently and effectively during flood-related disasters.
A key initiative of the SAR-FR WG is the creation of a Flood Rescue Directory and roster, which will list and profile specialized teams capable of rapid deployment in flood emergencies. This directory, hosted on the VOSOCC platform, will allow affected countries to quickly identify and engage with flood rescue teams as needed. The group’s progress, including the development of the directory, will be shared at upcoming regional meetings and at the INSARAG Steering Group (ISG) meeting in March 2025, marking an important step in enhancing international flood response coordination.
